About Us
Explorations of rural Maharashtra led us to realize that traditional built forms were being replaced with insensitive buildings. We gained an on-ground understanding of underlying problems, ranging from broken rural communities to urban migration. Design Jatra was our response to this.
Design Jatra aims to strengthen rural communities and enable them to reinstate their pride in their own technologies, context, skills and materials. We do this through our architectural practice, and also through our social enterprise Tokar. Besides this, our initiative conducts various activities to facilitate and evolve the urban-rural dialogue via workshops and other programs with students and like-minded communities.
Our Story
The team of Design Jatra comprises of a number of architects, artisans and craftsmen, volunteers, architecture students as well as many loving communities. The growth of Jatra is a dedication to all the people who inspire it to continue on this path
